Pioneer Day

Today was Pioneer Day, where we celebrate those who settled Utah. We started the day at the Days of '47 Parade. Grandpa went downtown early to stake out a front row seat. Caden's favorite entries were the bands. The three kids danced and danced to the live music. Caden randomly gave both the girls a hug, complete with a soft pat on the back, in the middle of the parade. After an attempt at naps and tons of time in the swings we had a BBQ then did sparklers. Sparklers have always been my favorite type of firework. Caden loved them and caught on quickly that as soon as it quit burning he had to drop his stick into the bucket and run to Grandpa for another one. Caitlyn stopped after two sparklers because they were 'poking' her arm. Madisen eventually stopped when she tried to pick up a still hot sparkler to rearrange it in the water bucket and got burned. I think Caden could have gone all night, but we stopped him by default when the other girls quit. Don't feel too bad for him, I think we made it through 6 boxes of sparklers. It was a fun, full day. We even caught a few of the big fireworks as we drove home.
