Parenthood and Christmas

I've always really admired Joseph. I feel like the guy sometimes doesn't get his due credit. At a time when it was totally not socially acceptable, he married a woman who was already pregnant with a child that wasn't his. He took on the great task of raising *God's* son. I think I would have felt so much responsibility doing that. Even more than that, he must have been pretty impressive to begin with for God to choose him.

Then today in church I got thinking about Mary. She traveled about 6 miles on the back of a donkey while 9 months pregnant, possibly in the early stages of labor. Then she delivered her son on the floor of a cave, and chatted it up with perfect strangers who came wandering through with their sheep.

Its funny how my view of Christ's birth has changed a little since having a child of my own. In some ways we are all raising God's children, and he did specifically pick us to raise that child. It makes me want to step up my parenting a little bit to be more like Joseph and step up my ability to be happy in any situation to be more like Mary.

Great insight. Thank you for sharing. We are all God's children on this earth taking care of each other. I makes me realize how important it is to develop the Savior's characteristics as we relate with our families, friends and neighbors.
