We did a family night on obedience. I had a cute story and pictures about how cars and trucks follow rules and obey traffic lights or else they suffer consequences (crashes, police tickets, etc). Then we talked about how we have rules that we must obey or suffer consequences, sang "When my Mother Calls Me," and played red light/green light. I thought it was well recieved and I was excited about our success.
After closing prayer I told Caden he could play for 5 minutes before bed. He asked if he could watch a show. I told him no, his choices were to play or go to bed. He turned around and walked downstairs to the TV. I reminded him he needed to obey mommy and the rule was no TV right then, and again offered to let him play upstairs for 5 minutes. I told him if he didn't walk back upstairs he'd have to go straight to bed. 30 seconds later we were on our way to bed. He got in his PJs and started jumping on the bed while I got his nightime feed ready. I reminded him there is a rule against jumping on the bed. He didn't stop. I tried to playfully say 'red light' to get him to stop and remind him of our lesson. When that didn't work I told him I'd count to 3 and if he wasn't obeying sitting down he wouldn't get stories before bed. He didn't obey so I sat him down, turned out the light, and walked out of the room. He cried for the next 30 minutes because I'm a mean mommy who didn't read him stories.
Yup, FHE was a roaring success tonight.

You're not the only one. I feel like that all the time! Hang in there!
How could you? I am so ashamed.
