Labor Day Labors

While most people celebrated Labor Day with a BBQ, we celebrated by doing a few projects around the house. Both kids were mildly sick and needing some attention, so rather than our typical approach of each doing our own projects while the kids played we decided to tag team the projects. That way if the kids needed attention one of us could stop and give it to them but the other could keep the momentum going with the project. It was lots of fun to work with Ryan on the projects. I hope we do it more in the future.

In the spirit of ladies first we started with a project on my list. The hail storm a few weeks ago took off the tops of our onions, so even though they had 3 months left in the growing cycle they were no longer growing. So we dug up half the patch and spent a few hours washing and chopping our golf ball sized onions to prepare them for the dehydrator.

Then we tackled Ryan's project. He has a goal to get the garage fully organized this winter. To that end we moved two large shelving units from the kids' toy room to the garage. We had to relocate the household items that were previously on the shelves, clean the area in the garage where the shelves were going, then reload them. I'm very pleased with the result. They are on the wall next to my car and having the clean edge there makes it feel like I have more space to get the kids in and out. All in all we felt pretty accomplished.

In other related labor news, Ryan's sister had her baby on Sunday afternoon. Caden is so excited about a new cousin and couldn't get enough of looking at the pictures Uncle Steve emailed to us.
