At the beginning of the year our Stake President asked all the adult members of the stake to become indexers for Family Search. I signed up and started indexing. Ryan was a little busier with life so he kept putting it off. Then the first week in April the 1940 Census records became available and Ryan caght the bug. In his first week of indexing Ryan did 1,000 names. By contrast, it took me about 6 weeks to reach that same mark. I've ramped up my indexing in the last few weeks as well. Its sort of addicting to watch the census map progress and know you're contributing to that (the weekly contests don't hurt, either). The Church has a goal of having the Census indexed by the end of the year. I figured out that at the current pace it will take about 8 months to complete, so we're on track. But I don't think we'll be able to keep up the current pace with the current volunteers (Ryan will not be doing 1,000 records per week forever), so more volunteers are always needed. If you have 30 minutes to spare on a Sunday afternoon, sign up and do a batch. Then check the map and see if it doesn't make you want to do another. :)Monday, April 16, 2012

we've done some indexing. Some of that beautiful penmanship is difficult to decipher so Steve and I work as a team to decide what it says.
